Marriott Hotels Robocalls
Robocall Investigation – Unsolicited Calls From 614-603-7200 regarding
Have you received an unsolicited robocall on your cell phone from the number
614-603-7200, advertising a free stay at a Marriott Hotel?
Recently, the attorneys at Meyer Wilson been investigating Marriott’s
telemarketing practices. We have received complaints from consumers who
have received completely unsolicited phone calls from that number –
614-603-7200. On the calls, a prerecorded message plays and informs the
recipient of the call that he or she has been selected for a free Marriott
Hotel stay, and to either press 1 for more information, or to press 2
to be placed on a do-not-call list.

Marriott, like many companies, appears to be using a vendor who uses automated
dialing systems—computers that can dial telephone numbers without
needing an actual person to dial the number—to market its services.
Now, for persons who have given Marriott their
consent to call them, that’s perfectly fine. But calls like that are
not fine for folks who
haven’t given that consent.
Calls like these are annoying, and it can be hard to get them to stop.
But you have options. There is a federal law called the Telephone Consumer
Protection Act (TCPA). Except in rare circumstances, the TCPA makes it
illegal to make calls to cellphones using automated dialers or to call
a cell phone with a prerecorded message. If a court finds that a call
to a cell phone violates the TCPA, the law says that the user of the phone
can get between $500 and $1,500 for every call.
If you got a call on your cell phone from the number 614-603-7200, along
with a prerecorded message, we’d like to hear from you. At no charge
to you, we can help determine whether the calls you have been receiving
may violate the TCPA.
