A federal law, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (the “TCPA”), prohibits, in most instances, the use of automatic dialing systems, or of artificial or prerecorded voice messages (“robocalls”) to cellular phones without the prior express consent of the called party. Unsolicited text messages and faxes are also generally prohibited.
