Aaron's Furniture Robocalls
Meyer Wilson is currently investigating complaints regarding robocalls to cell phones coming from Aaron's Furniture. Robocalls are automated telephone calls, sometimes text messages, that deliver pre-recorded messages.
About the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)
The TCPA can be found in 47 U.S.C. 227 and restricts automated calls and prerecorded messages (for both debt collection and telemarketing purposes). The TCPA also now regulates automated text messaging. The TCPA placed a number of restrictions on telemarketers. The major restrictions include:
- That an entity must have a person's prior express consent to make an automated/prerecorded call
- That an entity must have a person's prior express consent to send an automated text message
You could be entitled to $500 - $1,500 per message if you received robocalls that you did not give your express written consent for.
